NEW ORLEANS — Dominique Bell, a junior on the Xavier University of Louisiana
women's tennis team, was selected a first-team NAIA All-American.
Bell is the first Xavier women's tennis player to be named All-America. She was
one of 16 chosen to the first team.
A 5-foot-5 junior from Jackson, Miss., and a 2003 graduate of Callaway High School, Bell
was 12-3 in singles and 11-5 in doubles this spring for the Gold Nuggets, who won
the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship and ranked 21st in the final NAIA poll.

"I am very happy and excited for Dominique," Xavier Coach Alan Green said. "We set a goal
for her to improve over her first two years here. This award shows that all the hard
work paid off. I'm proud of her."
Bell this season was selected GCAC Player of the Year for the third time and all-NAIA Region XIII. She
was 19th in the NAIA women's singles rankings of May 6.
"I'm excited and a little shocked," Bell said. "I wasn't expecting this. We had a good
year but had some tough luck not making nationals. I was surprised that we didn't make
nationals and I still made All-America."
Bell is the fourth Xavier athlete this year to earn NAIA recognition. Shawn Dumas was a
third-team All-American in men's basketball, and backcourt teammate Mark Stewart earned
honorable mention. Guard Jarryn Cleaves was honorable mention in women's basketball.
