Tennis teams remain unbeaten in GCAC
For immediate release . . . March 17, 2007

MOBILE, Ala. — The men's and women's tennis teams of Xavier University of Louisiana snapped losing streaks Saturday and remained unbeaten in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.

The Gold Rush snapped a four-match losing streak with a 9-0 victory against Spring Hill. The Gold Nuggets, ranked ninth in the NAIA, defeated Mobile 9-0 and Spring Hill 9-0 to end their two-match losing streak and remain atop the conference standings.

Xavier's men are 4-0 in the GCAC (6-6 overall), and the women are 5-0 (9-3 overall).

Coach Alan Green changed his men's team's singles lineup, moving Miroslav Vukicevec to No. 2 and Mario Myles to No. 3. Vukicevic defeated Evan Davis 6-3, 6-1, and Myles beat Tom Shakar 6-0, 6-1.

"Our men struggled a bit in Florida (the previous weekend)," Green said. "I thought we needed to switch our lineup around to put us in more favorable matchups. The guys responded. We wiped the slate clean going into today, and we're treating this like a new season. We're trying to make a strong push to see if we can get into nationals."

Xavier's men did not lose a set, and the women dropped only one set in their two victories.

"Our women came out pretty strong against Mobile," Green said. "Mobile won the conference last year during our absence, so we wanted to re-establish ourselves as the top team in the conference."

The Xavier men will return to Mobile on Thursday for the next match, a 10 a.m. dual against NAIA No. 25 Oklahoma Christian. The Nuggets are off until March 29, when they'll resume their schedule in the Small College Blue-Gray Tournament at Montgomery, Ala.
