Okoroha receives GCAC award again
For immediate release . . . February 13, 2007
NEW ORLEANS — Kelechi Okoroha of Xavier University of Louisiana
was chosen Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week in
men's basketball for Feb. 5-11.
Okoroha, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Missouri City, Texas, averaged 18.3
points, 3.7 assists and 1.7 rebounds to help the Gold Rush win all three of its games
during the week. He scored 19 points against Tougaloo, 21 against
Mobile, 15 against Loyola and shot a combined 75 percent from
the floor (21 of 28) and 76.5 percent from the line (13 of 17).
He is the third GCAC male to win the award twice this season. The
others are William Carey's Jarekus Singleton and Belhaven's Bobby Johnson.
For the season Okoroha is averaging 10.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3
assists in 24 games with 16 starts. His field-goal accuracy of 57.8
percent leads the team. Okoroha started the last 11 games and averaged 11.2 points during that time.
Xavier, 17-7 and the GCAC leader by a half-game over LSU-Shreveport,
will visit the Pilots for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday.
