ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Whitmore's 3-pointer beats buzzer, Belhaven
For immediate release . . . January 20, 2007
Box Score
NEW ORLEANS — Brittany Whitmore's 3-pointer at the buzzer Saturday
lifted NAIA No. 22 Xavier University of Louisiana to a 63-62 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
women's basketball victory against Belhaven at The Barn.
The Gold Nuggets (14-5 overall, 6-0 GCAC) extended their winning streak
to seven games and defeated Belhaven (5-9, 3-3) for the 23rd time in
their last 24 meetings.
Whitmore scored from the left side after a pass from Jarryn Cleaves. It was
the second time during the Nuggets' streak that they won at the buzzer —
Tiffany Norris made a 2-pointer Dec. 30 to give Xavier a 45-44 victory
against then-fourth-ranked Montana Western.
"I just said Lord, please let it go in," said Whitmore, who scored all
seven of her points in the second half. "Cleaves is our shooter, but my
defender left me to help out on Cleaves, so I was open. I knew I had to
be ready if she passed it to me."
Dominee Matthews scored 17 points, Erica Turnbull 16 and Cleaves 12 for
Xavier.
Roxana Rogers scored 16 points and Samantha Kirkwood 15 for Belhaven,
and Lindsey Dukes had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Belhaven didn't score after Dukes' basket gave the Lady Blazers a 62-58
lead with 1:04 remaining. Rynika Hebert's putback with 48 seconds to
play cut the margin to 62-60, and Xavier gained a turnover with 19
seconds remaining before Whitmore swished her shot.
"We'll take them any way we can get them," Xavier Coach Bo Browder
said.
The teams were tied at 29 at halftime, then Belhaven scored nine
consecutive points to take a 38-31 lead with 15:56 remaining. The lead
changed hands four more times before the final shot.
Xavier outshot Belhaven 45 to 36 from the floor, but the Lady Blazers
outrebounded the Nuggets 42-36, including a 17-6 advantage on the
offensive end.
The Nuggets, who have won 53 of their last 58 conference games, will
play GCAC opponent William Carey at 5:30 p.m. Monday at The Barn.
