Erica Turnbull   Turnbull is GCAC Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS — Erica Turnbull of Xavier University of Louisiana is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 20-26.

Turnbull, a 6-foot sophomore forward/center from Baltimore and a 2004 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds and made 10 of 13 field goals in two games. She scored a career-high 17 points against West Virginia Tech in the Xavier Classic on Thanksgiving night and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Langston the following day.

Through eight games Turnbull is fourth on the team with a 9.1 scoring average and leads Xavier in rebounds per game (7.3), field-goal percentage (.583), free throws made (17), free throws attempted (29) and blocked shots (5).

It's the second time in three weeks that a Gold Nugget earned the GCAC award. Junior guard Jarryn Cleaves received the honor for Nov. 6-12.

Xavier (5-3) will play Tuskegee at 6 p.m. Friday in the Lady Tiger Classic at Grambling, La.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country and tennis.
