Gold Rush's California tournament canceled
For immediate release . . . November 28, 2006
NEW ORLEANS — The Xavier University of Louisiana men's basketball team has
an unexpected addition to its Christmas list: opponents to play.
The Gold Rush is trying to fill a late-December hole in its schedule because
organizers of the Hoopin' in Holidays Tournament at Los Angeles have canceled
the event. Xavier was scheduled to compete against seven other historically
black colleges and universities in the tournament and play three games Dec. 27-29.
Xavier is attempting to fill the void with a couple of games closer to home,
Coach Dannton Jackson said Monday.
Xavier, 5-1 after an 89-64 home victory Monday against Philander Smith,
will play Huston-Tillotson at 7 p.m. Saturday in The Barn.
