NEW ORLEANS — Erica Turnbull scored a career-high 17 points Thursday to
lead Xavier University of Louisiana to an 86-60 women's basketball victory against
West Virginia Tech in the Xavier Classic.
The Gold Nuggets (5-2) earned their 39th consecutive victory in The Barn.
Texas College defeated Dillard 93-81, and Langston beat Tougaloo 83-70 in the other games.
Jarryn Cleaves scored 16 points, and Brittany Whitmore had a career-high 13 for
the Nuggets, who are 5-0 on Thanksgiving Day the last seven years.
Orlandrea Moore had 12 points and 12 rebounds for West Virginia Tech (6-2),
which has a two-game losing streak.
Xavier, which led 47-22 at halftime, outshot the Golden Bears 44 to 33
percent from the floor and outrebounded them 50-39. Turnbull led the Nuggets with nine rebounds.
Marche Westray scored 12 points and Shantrelle Matthews 10 for West Virginia Tech.
Xavier led by double digits the final 27 minutes. Turnbull and Whitmore scored
six points apiece during a 21-2 first-half run which gave the Nuggets a 40-15 lead.
