Cleaves is GCAC Player of the Week
For immediate release . . . November 14, 2006

NEW ORLEANS — Jarryn Cleaves of Xavier University of Louisiana is the first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week of the 2006-07 season.

Cleaves, a 5-foot-8 junior guard from Memphis, Tenn., and a 2003 graduate of Memphis East High School, scored 13 points in each of the Gold Nuggets' victories last week — 63-40 against Texas College on Friday and 65-49 against Concordia (Ala.) on Saturday.

Through four games Cleaves leads Xavier in points per game (13.5), assists (18), steals (12), three-point field goals (7), free-throw percentage (.778) and minutes per game (30.5).

Xavier, 4-0 for the first time since the 1996-97 season, will play a pair of ranked NAIA opponents this week — No. 13 Cumberland (2-0) at 5 p.m. Friday and No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene (3-0) at 4 p.m. Saturday — in the Pops Duncan Classic at Nashville, Tenn. The site of both games will be Trevecca's Moore Gym.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country and tennis.
