Dutchtown's Williams signs with Xavier
For immediate release . . . November 8, 2006

NEW ORLEANS — Johnna Williams, a 6-foot forward from Dutchtown High School and Prairieville, La., signed scholarship papers Wednesday to play women's basketball next season for Xavier University of Louisiana.

Williams averaged 18.2 points, 15.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game in 2005-06 for Dutchtown and helped the Griffins reach the Class 5A state playoffs. She was all-District 3-5A and honorable-mention all-state.

"Johnna has a tough inside game, and she really likes blocking shots," Xavier Coach Robert "Bo" Browder said. "She has a strong defensive presence."

Williams is the daughter of former Tulane University and 13-year NBA player John "Hot Rod" Williams.

Xavier, 2-0 this season and winner of 75 of its last 89 games, will play its home opener at 5:30 p.m. Friday against Texas College in The Barn.
