Gold Rush finishes third in HBCU tourney For immediate release . . . September 30, 2006 ATLANTA — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis finished third, behind champion Hampton and Florida A&M, in the team scoring of the HBCU National Championships at the Sugar Creek and Stone Mountain tennis centers. The Gold Rush's Terry Richardson defeated Bethune-Cookman's Christian Crux 7-5, 6-0 before losing 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) to Prairie View's Nicholas Bateman in the A-flight consolation final Saturday. Xavier's Thomas Fugate lost 6-0, 6-1 to Bethune-Cookman's Yannick Johnson in the C-flight consolation final. Hampton, FAMU and Bethune-Cookman were the top three teams in the women's division. It was the second and final fall tournament for Xavier, which will begin its schedule of dual matches in January. |
