Harding, Wallace shave times and lead Xavier

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Xavier University of Louisiana sophomores Ebony Harding and Darren Wallace had season-best times Saturday to lead their teams in the Rhodes Invitational cross country meet at Plough Park.
Harding ran 5,000 meters in 21 minutes, 4.72 seconds and finished 25th out of 95 runners in the women's race. Her time was more than a minute better than her previous best, and she was the Gold Nuggets' fastest finisher for the fourth time in as many meets this year.
Wallace ran 8,000 meters in 29:07.17 and placed 21st out of 76 men. His time was nearly a minute faster than his previous best, and he led the Gold Rush for the fourth time in as many meets this year.
Xavier scored 165 points to finish seventh out of nine teams in the men's division and 192 points to finish ninth out of 11 women's teams. Rhodes won the men's title with 35 points, and Southern Arkansas won the women's with 66. Individual champions were Stephen Hill of Christian Brothers (26:27.96) and Anna O'Brien of Northwest Missouri State (19:07.10).
Xavier's next event will be the Walt Disney World Classic at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., next Saturday. It will be the final meet before the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Clinton, Miss., on Oct. 21.
