Broussard promoted to associate head coach
For immediate release . . . September 13, 2006

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana has promoted Darrilyn Broussard to women's basketball associate head coach, Athletics Director Dennis Cousin announced Wednesday.

Broussard is in her seventh year at Xavier and her sixth on the women's basketball staff. During her first five seasons at Xavier, the Gold Nuggets compiled a 132-35 record, won or shared four Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular-season championships and reached the NAIA national tournament every year. She coordinates the Nuggets' recruiting and was responsible for the recruiting of current guard Kojanova Hamilton, the 2004-05 GCAC Freshman of the Year.

"Coach Broussard and I are a good team, like Batman and Robin," Xavier head coach Robert "Bo" Browder said. "It's been easy to work with her because we believe in the same things, such as how to treat people and how to live. That makes a difference."

Broussard, 42, is a New Orleans native who graduated from Mercy Academy and played four seasons of basketball for Xavier before graduating in 1986. She earned her master's degree from the University of Phoenix.

Broussard coached six seasons at Xavier Preparatory High School in New Orleans before joining Browder's staff.

Xavier did not compete in 2005-06 because of the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but this fall the Nuggets will resume their bid for a 12th appearance in 14 years in the NAIA national tournament. Xavier will open the season Nov. 3-4 in a Las Vegas tournament before playing its home opener Nov. 10 against Texas College. The remainder of the schedule will be released when it is complete.
