2011-12 Highlights
through March 26, 2012
23-9 overall, 11-3 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
• Reached 20 victories for the seventh time in nine seasons and the 27th time overall to extend its Louisiana men's basketball record
• Extended a school record with its 12th consecutive winning season
• Extended a school record with its 21st consecutive non-losing season
• Shared the GCAC regular-season championship with Tougaloo — XU's first regular-season championship since 2006-07
• Qualified for the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I National Championship for the
second consecutive year and the sixth time in eight seasons
• Ranked in 12 of 13 NAIA Division I Coaches' Top 25 polls this season, with a high of 18th twice,
a rank of 21st on March 7 entering the national tournament and a rank of 24th in the postseason poll
• Won 33 of last 36 games at The Barn
• Won 50 games since the start of the 2010-11 season . . .
it's the first time Xavier won 50 games over two seasons since 1980-81 and 1981-82
• 44-2 in non-conference home games during the last five seasons
• 49-1 since November 2009 when making more free throws than opponents — 17-1 in 2011-12
• Won 67-61 at home — rallying from 16 points down in the second
half — against NAIA No. 18 Tougaloo on Feb. 13 in the final XU men's game at The Barn, which opened in 1937
• Fifth consecutive year to rank among the top six in NAIA Division I in scoring defense
• Third consecutive year to rank among the top four in NAIA Division I in field-goal percentage defense
• Won its season opener for the 16th consecutive time
• Allowed less than 50 points in six games — most by an XU team in one season since 1951-52
• Won 74-50 at Fisk on Feb. 20 to give Dannton Jackson his 200th victory as XU head coach
• Dannton Jackson became the second Xavier coach — the first
since Denny Alexander (1978-87) — to post nine consecutive winning seasons
• Dannton Jackson became the third consecutive Gold Rush coach to reach 200 victories
• No player averaged more than 9.9 points per game for the season
• Five of the losses were by a combined 16 points, including an overtime and a triple-overtime decision
• Denzell Erves' six double-doubles were the most in one season by an XU player since the start of 2003-04
• Jamaan Kenner was accepted to the School of Medicine of LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, La.
• Four players — Denzell Erves (three times), Anthony Simmons (twice), Cordell Hadnot and Nick Haywood —
combined to win seven GCAC Player of the Week awards
• Nick Haywood made seven 3-pointers Nov. 26 at Wiley — most in a game by an XU player since
Mark Stewart made a school-record-tying eight at Mobile on March 7, 2008
• Chris Iles received honorable mention on the 2011-12 NAIA Division I All-America team.
• Team statistical rankings in NAIA Division I included No. 2 in field-goal percentage defense (.378),
No. 6 in scoring defense (62.6) and No. 12 in rebound margin (+6.4)
• Individual statistical rankings in NAIA Division I included Chris Iles
No. 14 in 3-point field-goal percentage (.433)
