2013-14 Highlights

23-9 overall, 10-2 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference

•  Reached 20 victories for the fourth consecutive year, the ninth time in 11 seasons and the 29th time overall to extend its Louisiana men's basketball record
•  Extended a school record with its 14th consecutive winning season
•  Extended a school record with its 23rd consecutive non-losing season
•  Set a school record by winning its third consecutive GCAC regular-season championship
•  Qualified for the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I National Championship for the fourth consecutive year and the eighth time in 10 seasons
•  Ranked in all 13 NAIA Division I Coaches' Top 25 polls of the season, with a high of 11th on Feb. 4
•  Xavier's current streak is 37 consecutive polls, the longest active streak in the division
•  Tied for 16th in the postseason, XU's highest in the final poll of a season since 2001
•  The appearance in the postseason top 25 was the 75th time overall during Dannton Jackson's 11 seasons as head coach
•  Three overtime victories for the second consecutive season, including 90-80 at home on Dec. 3 against NAIA top-10 opponent William Carey after trailing by 16 in both halves
•  Set school season records with 904 free-throw attempts and 653 free throws made . . . previous records were 877 attempts in 2010-11 and 626 made in 2010-11
•  Made 72.2 percent of its free throws — the highest since a school-record 73.7 percent in 1985-86
•  Averaged 72.7 points per game — XU's highest-scoring team since 2004-05 (76.4)
•  11-0 when allowing fewer than 60 points
•  14-3 at home and won 59 of last 68 home games
•  8-1 in non-conference regular-season home games and 75-6 in the last 10 seasons
•  Dannton Jackson became the winningest head coach in Gold Rush history when Xavier won 71-66 at Spring Hill on December 17 . . . Jackson is 249-107 through 11 seasons
•  Shot 50 percent or better from the floor 13 times . . . 2012-13 team did it 11 times
•  Shot 80 percent or better from the line 10 times . . . 2012-13 team did it six times
•  Won its season opener for the 18th consecutive time
•  85-4 since November 2009 when making more free throws than opponents — 19-1 in 2012-13
•  Dannton Jackson became the first to be named GCAC Coach of the Year in men's basketball three consecutive times
•  Dannton Jackson reached 20 victories for the ninth time in 11 seasons as head coach and tied LSU-Shreveport's Chad McDowell for third place on the all-time state list, which is led by Grambling's Fred Hobdy (14) and LSU's Dale Brown (10)
•  Lucas Martin-Julien shared the GCAC Freshman of the Year award — the first from Xavier to earn this honor since Shaun Dumas in 2004-05
•  Sydney Coleman became the only Xavier newcomer since 2003-04 to score in double figures in first seven games of a season
•  Sydney Coleman and Morris Wright were voted to the 12-player All-GCAC team
•  Morris Wright became the only player in Xavier history to lead the team in scoring, assists, steals and 3-point accuracy in the same season
•  Morris Wright became the third player in XU history — the first in 23 seasons — to reach 400 points, 40 made 3-pointers, 100 rebounds and 50 steals in the same season

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
