Xavier launched its intercollegiate women's volleyball program in 2003. Coached by Greg
Castillo and assisted by Darrilyn Broussard, the Gold Nuggets produced records of 9-23
in 2003 and 10-23 in 2004. Both teams reached the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference tournament. The university canceled the Nuggets' 2005 season because of Hurricane Katrina,
then suspended the program indefinitely in the spring of 2006.
