Community Arts Program

From its founding, Xavier’s purpose has been to promote a more just and humane society. To this end, the Community Arts Program (CAP) at Xavier prepares students to assume roles of leadership and service in society through the arts. CAP exists to nurture students who not only want to make art, but who want to make a difference.

In communities throughout the United States, artists work side-by-side with their fellow citizens -- including city planners, school administrators and educators, health care providers, and elected officials -- to improve their neighborhoods and effect social change. Together, these constituencies tackle issues as diverse as health care, civil rights, education, poverty, criminal justice, labor, human rights, and the environment.

CAP is committed to helping students discover the ways in which art can be used to enrich communities and lives.
