About the Art Department

Facilities

The Art Village at Xavier University serves as home to the Department of Art and its Community Arts Program. The Village is designed as a state-of-the-art fine arts complex for student and community use and is comprised of five light industrial buildings in New Orleans' Gert Town neighborhood. Three of the five buildings have been renovated and house educational laboratories for graphic design, sculpting, ceramics, casting, welding, drawing, painting, and printmaking, as well as a community lecture hall and administrative offices for Department of Art faculty and staff. Plans are being developed for use of the remaining two buildings. Collectively, the Art Village facilities provide the Department of Art with 26,500 square feet of space for current needs and future growth.
