Teaching & Research
Cultural & intellectual history of the 1920s and the Pan-Africa movement with emphasis on African Americans ushered onto the international stage relative to developments in travel, technology, urbanization and consumerism. Focus on the Harlem Renaissance movement as a window to view the culture of the 1920s. Instruction in autobiography and biography that focuses on African Americans who, given leadership skills, work to contribute to a more just and humane society. Research on African Americans in the South, particularly the New Orleans/Baton Rouge Mississippi River corridor, by drawing from regional, popular and material culture case studies. Author of poetry and short stories that highlight as themes the South and African American history and culture.
