Office of Environmental Education

The Office of Environmental Education is an academic division that offers curricula in Environmental Studies and Environmental Science. Its mission is to offer an environmental minors program that will prepare and enable Xavier University students to pursue environmental careers. The Office of Environmental Education is dedicated to furthering an awareness and knowledge of environmental issues, as well as increasing the number of underrepresented African American and minority students who pursue environmental careers. Its goals support Xavier University’s mission statement “to promote a more just and humane society.”

In 1998, Xavier University established three interdisciplinary minors:

Environmental Science for Non-Science Majors
Environmental Studies for Non-Science Majors
Environmental Studies for Science Majors

Since 2001, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has supported these minors through the establishment of the Office of Environmental Education.

It aims to:

  • recruit students to the environmental minors
  • support curriculum and faculty development across the disciplines with infusion grants
  • increase an awareness of environmental issues across campus
  • create partnerships with public agencies and private sector environmental organizations

The Office of Environmental Education is located in room 106 of the Administration Annex.
