Among the 65 initiates into the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society at XU's 75th tapping ceremony were: (3rd from left) Kennedy St. Charles and Brittany Peters, both New Orleans, Eman Al-Bassisi of Gretna LA , Jeremy Shropshire of Hammond LA, and Alayna Robinson of Peachtree City GA. Also on hand for the occasion were Zeta Phi Rho chapter secretary Aubrey Kelly and chapter advisor Marlene Robinson (L), and Theology professor Fr. Phillip Linden, Jr, S.T.D. (R).
BRIDGING THE GAP:
A project nearly 10 years in the making - a permanent, covered, raised pedestrian bridge crossing Washington Avenue connecting Xavier's main campus to the Gert Town community - officially got underway this week with pile driving near the Convocation Center. It will replace the open, steel canal-crossing currently in use.
MAN OF THE HOUR:
XU President Dr. Norman C. Francis chats with former U.S. Ambassador and Atlanta mayor Andrew Young during a social gathering of alumni and friends held at the home of long-time Xavier supporter Victor Haydel. The intimate gathering honoring the retiring President served as a precursor to the Atlanta Alumni Chapter's annual fundraising event.
THE HARD SELL:
Junior XU sales and marketing majors Ajhia Ellis of St. Louis MO and Davin Black of Mobile AL took home a 2nd place trophy from the Partnering for Progress Sales Competition co-sponsored by Tuskegee University and 3M. Student competitors from several invited HBCUs role-played a tough price increase negotiation in the face of global economic changes.
THE HONORS KEEP COMING:
XU President Dr. Norman C. Francis is hooded by Georgetown University dignitaries during a special ceremony at which he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the Washington DC Catholic university. Earlier in the week, the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE) announced that its Lifetime Achievement Award would be renamed the Dr. Norman Francis Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor
